Looking For A new Position? My Top 2 Tips.

Executive Search Partners has been in business for 16 years. We are experts in finding excellent candidates for our clients and in helping candidates put their best resume and profile forward. So what are our secrets and how can you apply them when you are interested in a position not being represented by Executive Search Partners? Here are our top 2 tips:

1.    Most positions are found through networking.

o  When you need help looking for a new position or a referral into a company your network is your best resource.

o  Build and stay in touch with your network throughout your career.

o  Help others network.

o  The best book on networking we have found is Harvey Mackay's Dig Your Well Before You're Thirsty: The Only Networking Book You'll Ever Need.

o  If you see an on-line posting that you would like to apply for, see if someone in your network can refer you to the hiring manager. If not see tip #2.

2.    If you apply on-line:

o  Your resume must look like you are a 95% fit to the position - on the first page. By fit, you must match scope, title, industry, and technology. Companies get so many resumes that they do not need to consider candidates who do not look like they are a strong fit.

o  If you are a strong fit, submit a resume that is customized for the position. Customizing includes using the same terminology as the posting as well as highlighting your relevant experience.

o  If you are not a 95% fit see if someone in your network can refer you.

o  Cover letters are never read and unnecessary.
